Torres has developed numerous cultural awareness programs that have been implemented under contingency operations worldwide.  We have trained more than 20,000 troops in Cultural Awareness who are deploying under Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) or Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) at Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Polk, Louisiana; the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and other military installations CONUS and OCONUS.  Our Cultural Awareness training program is comprehensive and follows U.S. Department of Defense Cultural Awareness training requirements.  For example, it includes:
 

  • Cultural Foundations: The shaping impact of politics; The economic environment; The influence of the Host Nation Military Forces – past and present; Tribalism; and Introduction to Religion: Definitions, Origins of religious beliefs in region, Primary sects of the religion, Elements of Islam faith.

  • Leader Meetings: International Negotiations; Non-verbal communications; and Working with an interpreter advising Host Nation Security Forces.

  • History and Geography: Geographic overview; Population densities; Early history; and History in 20th Century.

  • Extremism: Reformists movement in Islam, Sulafi and Wahhabi ideology.

  • Cross-Cultural Communication: Study of the Culture; Culture and Terrorism; The American perspective; Ethnocentrism; and Use of interpreter.

  • Tactical Application of Cultural Knowledge: Integrating culture into operations; Nature of the conflict in Iraq or Afghanistan; and building rapport.


Torres certified Cultural Awareness instructors hold advanced degrees and are cleared at the Secret and Top Secret Levels.  Most of our Cultural Awareness instructors have also previously served in the U.S. military as Officers or Non-Commissioned Officers.
